Debian uses the term "stable" in the sense of "unchanging" rather than "rock-solid reliable". While it IS reliable in most cases, there is no guarantee that, under absolutely every circumstance, it will keep running. Mainly because the operating system can't control what hardware it's running on - would you like it not to crash if, for example, the CPU was overheating? > > I suspect flash player in browser might be the cause > the player is downloaded from adobe site and installed by myself > besides I often see "XID collision, trouble ahead" though it rarely > cause problem No, that's probably not the issue. If the computer has halted with the keyboard lock lights blinking, then you have achieved what is known as a "kernel panic". That is, the kernel has hit an unrecoverable error, such that the safest option is to stop all operations. You WILL need to reboot at this point. When you come back up, check in /var/log/syslog for information (although, if the panic was particularly bad, there may not have been time to write out the log messages). If you find some (it'll look like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Kernel-panic.jpg), let us know and we might be able to assist further.
