Did you read the full bug log? The issue is that redirecting with sudo 
is not as easy as it seems[1].

The 'cat >' command works just fine for my user (member of 'floppy') on 
sid (yes, I just tested it). AFAIK the first user created on a Debian 
install is always a member of 'floppy'.

However, the Installation Manual can not assume a Debian environment, so 
the simplest command that should work on most GNU/Linux distributions 
(and possibly some other *nixes) is:

# cp image.iso /dev/sdX

(where it doesn't matter if you use sudo or not to get the necessary 
permissions). BTW, this works also for regular hard drives which are 
owned by root:disk.

Sure, because in it's default invocation is simpler and faster than the 
default 'dd' invocation.
