Interesting. As already shown, I can't reproduce your problem. Not sure if this is because you ship a policy-rc.d script. It might help, moving that file away. checking with debsums if the sysv-rc have not been modified, might help, too. And last but not least, you can run the invoke-rc.d script via "sh -x /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d cups start" This should give us a clue what's going on. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
