It works in SuSE and slack but not Debian.
I've never used "vga-791". If you change "vga=791" to "vga=ask", you should get a menu of video modes you can choose from. The 2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel is primarily intended to be used as the initial installation kernel. As far as I know, it does not use initrd. If it works for you, and you don't need other drivers that are not included with it, you don't need to change it. 2.4.18-k7 is optimized for your athlon cpu. It also has additional drivers, which you may or may not need, that the 2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel does not have. The stock debian kernel-image 2.4.18-k7 needs initrd.img-2.4.18-k7. The kernel-image and initrd.img files are too large to fit on a floppy. So if you are booting from a floppy, you will need to use 2.4.18-bf2.4. If you want to use the stock 2.4.18-k7, you will need to set up grub to boot it from your hard disc. If 2.4.18-bf2.4 works fine for you, you could try to recompile it with athlon optimization turned on. > > Quoting "Jerome R.
