Hallo, I have a recently installed Debian with Linux 2.4.18-bf2.4. My goal is a home file server with software raid 1 for data, leaving the os on disk hda.
Linux is installed on a 2Gb disk in hda1 /boot hda2 swap hda3 / There is also: hdc cd-rom hdd not used (just added for a second swap file) I additionally installed two 40 GB disks on the onboard ide controller for software raid 1 but now I want to move them to their own cntroller. I have not yet moved any data to the 40 Gb disks. Now I have installed a ide crontroller (with raid that I do not use) so that I can have two 40 GB hard disks each on its own individual bus. At boot time I see the ide card and have put hard disk 0 (primary bus master disk) in set 1 and hard disk 2 (secondary bus master disk) in set 2. In Linux I cannot find the hard disks. I tried to run cfdisk for /dev/hde /dev/hdf /dev/hdg /dev/hdh dmesg (see below) seems to show that the new hard disks are not visible ot Linux What do I need to do be able to access the hard disks? Note: I have previously tried two other ide controllers (CMD 649 and Promise Fast Trak 100, neither of which, I discovered, are supported by Linux).
