Thanks to both for replies. Results to date: 1. sudo update-java-alternatives --plugin --jre -a is the only commanmd I can get to run without errors, but it doesn't solve things. 2. about:plugins says: Tea-Web Plugin (using IcedTea-Web 1.2 (1.2-2)) File: IcedTeaPlugin.so followed by a list of a lot of applications and Description: IcedTea, Suffixes: class.jar. I found the file IceTeaPlugin.so and copied it to ~/.mozilla/plugins, but still no joy. The page I am trying to access keeps saying I must have java enabled. The above entry from about:plugins seems to say I do, but apparently not.
