Yes, I verified in the kernel logs (/var/log/kern.log--thanks for that
tip) : I was using 2.6.32-39 before; after the upgrade I'm using
2.6.32-39squeeze1.

So I don't know why there has been an improvement in the kernel driver.
Maybe the proprietary module put the card in a more useable/improved
state.
