Are you sure about that? It sounds like what you want to do is the
opposite of a Debian Pure Blend.

GNOME 2.32 is no longer available in Debian outside of existing
releases that are frozen. For a Debian Pure Blend you can either use
GNOME 3 or start packaging MATE (a fork of GNOME 2) for Debian:
