Haven't done that in a while, but some things to consider: Xfce does not have: - a graphical package manager (keep synaptic, update-manager-gnome, etc., or use aptitude/apt-get instead) - an interface for Network Manager (keep network-manager-gnome, install wicd, or use /etc/network/interfaces instead) - own display manager (keep gdm(3), install slim, lightdm, etc., or use startx instead) You might also find out that due to circular dependencies and/or recommends it will not be easy to get rid of gnome. The above is quite general, in your particular case it will depend a lot on how you use the computer. If in doubt ask here.
