Yes - same effect. Here is a screenshot showing lowriter (LibreOffice), xfce4-terminal (2) and xfce4-notes. http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/other-apps.php In lowriter the font is set with the same font Dejavu sans mono 8pt. As you can see the 80 char sentences appear less wide in lowriter than the other applications. But then sentences are similarly less distant in lowriter (compare the sentence distance in lowriter and the terminal to the right). Again: Both are column-80 terminals (the less wide terminal picture is shot in Squezze, the wider terminal is shot in Wheezy). The only thing I've been able too find is this guy's post (Google search line 'debian font too wide'): http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=636844 but it consideres the internals of libfreetype6 and I'm not able too see what the conclusion is.
