For years I have used this scanner by running it from a terminal with scanimage saving the image in /tmp/image.pnm and transferring it to gimp to process. I'm sure originally it ran directly from gimp but then somehow with a new release of gimp the connection was lost. Last week I got tired of this roundabout method and tried to reestablish gimp's ability to acquire images directly from the scanner.
