I submitted a bug report on this to the Debian developer for the kernel image, who responded telling me that the hardware was likely loose and simply needed to be reseated. So, I took the laptop apart, and put it back together again, making sure everything fitted nice and snug. And, good news, it seems to be working now. The network devices seem to be recognized each time. So, hopefully this will last.
