Your scenario is quite opposite to mine. You installed Squeeze adding it 
to already existing Hardy system.  That's right, in such case Squeeze 
finds any existing OS-s without a problem.

In my case I installed another OS adding it to an existing Squeeze system 
and then run Squeeze update-grub.  In such scenario the bug manifested 
itself.
