..not just dead keyboard and dead touchpad???  Try plug in 
external keyboards and rodents or ssh in from another box.

..synaptics touchpad and mouse-stick-in-keyboard, and keyboard
dead since 2.6.38-1, now on -2 and 2.6.39rc4, Fujitsu-Siemens 
Celsius H240 w T7200 cpu.
