Well, gnome is listed an not automatically installed, so it wasn't brought it by apt-get or aptitude trying to satisfy dependencies, or you have since marked it as not automatically installed. Tasksel and similar tools usually don't mark the packages they install as automatically installed so it might have been installed by one of those. Pbuilder and variants also sometimes install packages in a way so they are not marked automatically installed.
