Which installation media did you download?  net installs are popular on this
list, but for your first installation I'd recommend downloading either the
CD or DVD 1 iso.  The Inspiron 6000 is very similar to a laptop I have
(Inspiron 1501) and Debian works very well with it.  Instead of fiddling
with the current incomplete installation, you might want to start over and
try again.  Will probably save a lot of time in the long run.
