Basically, the installer has now "two personalities" (it can be run from a CD/DVD or it can be run from an USB disk) so it should automatically and transparently detect the medium where "it lives". Why then asks for a CD device (or it complains about it cannot find it) and stops the installation process? That doesn't make much sense, IMO. > From my understanding of the process described > (which is very limited) at the bottom of the page at > > http://wiki.geteasypeasy.com/Hybrid_ISO/IMG_format#Recording_to_flash_media_on_Linux Yes, but note that those steps (the ones for writing the image into the flash unit) are no longer needed, just a simple "cat" will do the job. > the system thinks the USB stick is a CD drive. But, as you say, the CD > drive is not involved. Yep, and I can understand the installer asks for the CD/DVD medium provided it is just a "cosmetic" warning but then proceeds with the installation. >> I would go for BTS. > > I would go for a lower capacity USB stick and disconnecting the CD PRM > in the machine. But that's only because I have time on my hands, :) Do you think that will do the trick? That way for sure it won't find any optical device :-?
