I don't know if this helps:

I have a HP 2550 LaserJet connected via USB to an AirportExpress WLAN Station
which
makes the printer accessible in the LAN. The computer is a thinkpad with debian
squeeze 64 bit installed.

So let me see how it got there...

1. Go to System->Administration->Printing.
2. Click on the little arrow right of the big "add" button and select "Printer" not
"Class"
3. Enter root password
4. select network printer
5. select search for printer
6. don't fill in the search field but just press the Search button.

what happens?

I recently installed a Debian 6.0.0 i386 Squeeze desktop system. I am unable to figure out how to print to a LAN printer (HP LaserJet P2055dn). When I go to Swirl -> System -> Administration -> Printing and click Add, nothing happens. Under Lenny, I was able to fumble my way through the equivalent tool and successfully setup/ install/ configure/ whatever the printer and use it from all my desktop applications.

I've installed anything and everything related to HP and printing via Swirl -> System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager, but still no luck.

STFW I see some discussion, but no solution (yet):

Any suggestions?
