Tune the StartServers, MinSpareServers, MaxSpareServers, MaxClients, and MaxRequestPreChild; using lower values will reduce the amount of memory used by Apache. You might also tune the KeepAlive, MaxKeepAliveRequests, and KeepAliveTimeout values. Also, check the memory_limit in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini.
