The bk series is from the Bit Keeper repository, a tool that Marcello Tosatti (and other kernel developers) use for source code control.
The ac series is from Alan Cox, which tends to have cutting-edge stuff.
Numerous people maintain their own kernel trees, they usually append their initials to the tarballs that they release.

Hallo!
Having a look at http://www.linuxhq.com I can see that 2.4.22 is the last stable 2.4 kernel, and there are 3 different patches available:
1. 2.4.22-bk20, 2. 2.4.22-ac3, 3. 2.4.23-pre4
I understand number 3, but... what are numbers 1 and 2 ?? 8-?
Thanks.
PD the only thing I'm sure about is that in 2.4.22-ac3 I have found Centrino's speedstep support ;)
