As I said in other posts, add Option "HWCursor" "off" to the "Devices" section in XF86Config-4. SWCursor makes cursor a bit flickery when the machine is under heavy load though. For single head there#s no advantage AFAICT for the proprietary drivers, but i think they have one for dualhead setups and TV Out or some such > and I couldn't see any particular advantage otherwise.
