Greetings. I would like to try installing X3 and see if it works better than X4 with
my box. I have found this to be the case with Mandrake, and while X4 works under
Debian, it's a bit slow.

Now, I attempted this once and managed to screw up everything. Not only did X3 not
work, but I couldn't get X4 reinstalled & working either. Eventually after 2 months
of playing around, I somehow got X4 back up. I don't even know exactly what I did.
Needless to say, I dont want to do this again.

So, to install X3 my question is, do I uninstall anything first? If so, which
packages?
Or, when I configure X3 will the system simply make the changes required to run X3
while still having X4 installed?
I know that for X3 I need xserver-common-v3 and xserver-mach64. Are there others?
Then I follow the instructions to configure as in secction 9.4.3.2 of the debian
reference.
Am I missing any important steps?

Thanks much.
Skippi
