This commands seems normal to me. I think it would do what you want to do. But please make sure that you run it from superuser - '-o' flag needs that privileges. Maybe you'll prefer -a (--archive) flag - it equals '-rlptgoD', which is your flags plus "copy symlinks as symlinks" (-l) and "preserve device/special file" (-D).
