  I don't have a problem with raw throughput. For both disks hdparm reports 
around 37 MB/sec, though konqueror reports around 7 MB/s.

  The problem is that nothing else is really running when copying between 
those two disks. I wonder if your drives are on the same cable? hda/hdb?

  Your system is not stalling when copying large files, right?
