If you are trying to stick a perc5i in a standard pcie slot (I.e you've removed it from a poweredge server that's aquired a better card) theres 2 pins that interfere with the smbus on intel chipsets that need dissconnecting. Cover pins 5&6 on the topside of the board with a bit of tape and it should work.
