Just for reference, I gave up and simply used a testing debian-installer (as of today Fri Dec 4 12:40:41 CET 2009). Installation went fine this time. Setup: - DELL SAS 6 on a DELL Precision T7500 - 1 disk + 4 disk RAID0 (configured in SAS setup utility) debian-installer properly showed one disk and the "DELL Virtual Disk". Using LVM I grouped them together and simply installed everything on this single LVM group. After reboot, lshw now gives: *-pci:3 description: PCI bridge product: 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Port 1 vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1c bus info: p...@0000:00:1c.0 version: 00 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pci pciexpress msi pm normal_decode bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=pcieport-driver resources: irq:75 ioport:c000(size=4096) memory:f3c00000-f3dfffff *-scsi description: SCSI storage controller product: SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS vendor: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic physical id: 0 bus info: p...@0000:05:00.0 logical name: scsi7 version: 08 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: scsi pm pciexpress msi msix bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=mptsas latency=0 resources: irq:16 ioport:cc00(size=256) memory:f3cec000-f3ceffff memory:f3cf0000-f3cfffff memory:f3d00000-f3dfffff(prefetchable) *-disk:0 UNCLAIMED description: ATA Disk product: ST31500341AS vendor: Seagate physical id: 0.0.0 bus info: s...@7:0.0.0 version: CC4G serial: 9VS2WLP9 capacity: 1397GiB (1500GB) capabilities: 15000rpm configuration: ansiversion=5 *-disk:1 UNCLAIMED description: ATA Disk product: ST31500341AS vendor: Seagate physical id: 0.1.0 bus info: s...@7:0.1.0 version: CC4G serial: 9VS2V9CC capacity: 1397GiB (1500GB) capabilities: 15000rpm configuration: ansiversion=5 *-disk:2 UNCLAIMED description: ATA Disk product: ST31500341AS vendor: Seagate physical id: 0.2.0 bus info: s...@7:0.2.0 version: CC4G serial: 9VS2WX7V capacity: 1397GiB (1500GB) capabilities: 15000rpm configuration: ansiversion=5 *-disk:3 UNCLAIMED description: ATA Disk product: ST31500341AS vendor: Seagate physical id: 0.3.0 bus info: s...@7:0.3.0 version: CC4G serial: 9VS2V94J capacity: 1397GiB (1500GB) capabilities: 15000rpm configuration: ansiversion=5 *-disk:4 description: SCSI Disk product: VIRTUAL DISK vendor: Dell physical id: 1.0.0 bus info: s...@7:1.0.0 logical name: /dev/sdc version: 1028 size: 5587GiB (5998GB) capabilities: 15000rpm gpt-1.00 partitioned partitioned:gpt configuration: ansiversion=5 guid=45670638-051a-480e-9313-d7b0767c8028 *-volume description: Linux LVM Physical Volume physical id: 1 bus info: s...@7:1.0.0,1 logical name: /dev/sdc1 version: 3.6 serial: 23117dab-d99d-4e7c-a66c-aec97b08e255 size: 5575GiB capacity: 5586GiB capabilities: multi journaled reiserfs initialized configuration: filesystem=reiserfs hash=r5 state=clean and then: *-storage description: SATA controller product: 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SATA AHCI Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1f.2 bus info: p...@0000:00:1f.2 logical name: scsi0 logical name: scsi1 version: 00 width: 32 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: storage msi pm ahci_1.0 bus_master cap_list emulated configuration: driver=ahci latency=0 resources: irq:80 ioport:1e00(size=8) ioport:1e10(size=4) ioport:1e20(size=8) ioport:1e30(size=4) ioport:1ec0(size=32) memory:ff970000-ff9707ff *-disk description: ATA Disk product: ST31500341AS vendor: Seagate physical id: 0 bus info: s...@0:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/sda version: CC4G serial: 9VS2WX9L size: 1397GiB (1500GB) capabilities: partitioned partitioned:dos configuration: ansiversion=5 signature=00000080 *-volume description: Linux LVM Physical Volume partition physical id: 1 bus info: s...@0:0.0.0,1 logical name: /dev/sda1 serial: 26KnWb-0Bc9-MjgV-L6Im-Vqg2-D233-7rkZRa size: 1397GiB capacity: 1397GiB capabilities: primary multi lvm2 $ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/volumegroup-root 46G 971M 43G 3% / tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /lib/init/rw udev 10M 248K 9.8M 3% /dev tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev/shm /dev/mapper/volumegroup-boot 893M 22M 824M 3% /boot /dev/mapper/volumegroup-home 6.8T 33M 6.8T 1% /home Thanks, -- Mathieu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
