Paul, it's been a long time since I ran xfce, but at one time I did have it using gnome-screensaver. Apparently, some gnome-screensaver stuff was done in xfce4.4 [1] so that if you remove xscreensaver and install gnome-screensaver, it should "just work". When I did it, which was at least a couple of years ago, I ended up creating symlinks or wrapper scripts so that the xscreensaver calls being made by xfce became calls to gnome-screensaver. Also, I got some reasonable results from googling "gnome-screensaver xfce", though they were mostly a couple of years old. hope this helps A [1] http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3131
