Hi Frank,

First of all, I do apologize for posting on amd64 list, I was not sure about
the scope of these two groups. Thank you for clarify.

I didn't have a chance to test the LVM snaphots, but I understand that If I
snapshot the root (/) file system on to a new snapshot/backup logical volume
and copy using dd copy and compressing, a tar file, etc., I would need to
boot from a cd/dvd with LVM support in order to restore the original root
file system (Debian Netinstall would do it, no biggie). I don't want that.

In my actual schema I've both /boot and / file systems mirrored with md
devices, and grub is able to boot from them. I don't need to have a site
support to load any media on the server if I want to synchronize the mirror
backward. I'm looking for a similar schema with LVM, first I would need to
encapsulate /boot file system under LVM and then find out if how to
synchronize both file systems the other way around.

Thank you.
Andrés.
