I've been following this thread with some interest because my up-to-date sid has been having the same symptoms for some time, and I'd been unable to figure it out. Until today? Following Ben Finney's finding under Bug #530027, I downgraded everything cups to 1.3.8-1lenny5. That in turn required a frightening dpkg --force-overwrite to get libkrb53_1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny1_i386.deb to overwrite /usr/lib/[various krb5 stuff] that is also in three other packages. DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU SCREW UP YOUR MACHINE. FORCE-OVERWRITE IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. At least printing now works fine. And I have rebooted, and apparently I did not wreak havoc.
