You have to be specific:
- Which laptop (brand and model)
- Which video card. In doubt, check the output of "lspci -nn" or
  Xorg.log by running "grep -i chipset  /var/log/Xorg.0.log")
- Which version of Debian (I assume you use Lenny)

Xorg didn't auto-detect your configuration.
