I'll go sit at the back of the class. Yep, loading the radeon module
does give me a kind-of working X. I could have sworn I'd done an lsmod
to make sure it was loaded before posting, but it's been a long day. I'm
used to it loading without any manual intervention - I guess I missed it
this time.

Shame the driver's/xrandr's support for my card is broken with this
version too, but that's another thread.

Thanks for your suggestion. It's nice to have another brain around for
those times when mine stops working.
