Generally, a SD card will be seen as a mass storage device. With my Nokia N95 I can transfer files to and from my KDE desktop, and can also do this via bluetooth, so without messing with cables. I am using OpenSuse 11.1 though, since my etch install is too rudimentary for everyday use.
