However, if the machine meets the minimum requriements in the release
notes (and install manual), then Lenny should install.  

As for rolling upgrades, great but what about when e.g. a hard drive
fails.  If by that time Squeeze is stable, then you have to install
minimal etch, upgrade to minimal lenny, then upgrade to minimal
squeeze, then reinstall packages.  Its a royal pain (been there, done
that on my old boxes); however, they didn't meet the published min reqs.

As for old boxes and how cheap replacments are, my 486 only uses 20
watts.  This can be handy for some uses.
