When I plug my Debian laptop in at work and connect to our DHCP network it all seems to work: I get DNS servers configured, get a network connection where I can surf, ssh to other systems, etc., and everything seems fine.
BUT, when I type "dnsdomainname", it says I have no domain name configured. I tried things like adding "default domain-name "foo.com";" to my /etc/dhclient.conf file, and saying "require domain-name;", etc. but nothing helps. >From my reading it would seem that I need to get the right IP address and FQ hostname added to /etc/hosts when my dhclient connects in order for dnsdomainname to return a proper value... or not? Do I have to do this by hand every time, or is there a better way? I've googled and searched the Debian archives but come up empty (or rather, with tons of hits for keywords like dns, dhcp, dhclient, debian, domainname, etc. but nothing that helps so far). I need that command to return something because I want to start am-utils so I can NFS mount filesystems, and the am-utils startup requires dnsdomainname to be set.
