There is also a bug in xfree86 that apparently isn't fixed in sid yet. See: http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260 Patch attached. This patch (taken from the above link and adapted for use with debian) works with xfree86 4.2.1-3 in my backport. Hopefully this patch will be integrated into sid soon (I am not sure xfree86 4.3 has the fix yet either).
