Sound on sarge with alsa has been defeating me. (It was working
somewhat when I was using woody, but not since
"upgrading" to sarge. :-) ) Here's the situation:
DESCRIPTION: make install gives the following error:
make[1]: *** No rule to make target
`/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/2.95.2/include/stdarg.h', needed by
`sound.o'. Stop.
(This is being run in the /usr/src/modules/alsa-driver directory.)
Examination shows that /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/2.95.2/ does not
exist, although several other directories
(/usr/.../2.95.4, .../3.0.4, etc.) do exist.
SYSTEM: sarge, 2.4.18 kernel, sound built in, es1371 module selected,
SB-16 PCI card.
ANALYSIS:
- I'm following the instructions in the INSTALL file; the README and
FAQ files don't seem to help.
- ./configure appears to work properly.
- Using dselect, I removed and then reinstalled the alsa-base (and
other related) packages; this did not help.
Suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
