I'm trying to install etchnhalf on a toshiba satellite a305-s6857, using the etchnhalf installer cd. The laptop has a sata hard drive.
The problem is that once installed the system takes up to 15 min's to boot, hanging at one or more of the following: ieee1394: Host added: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[0000d1e334b355a] usb 1-2: UDSB disconnect, address2 sr 3:0:0:1: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 5 begin: waiting for root file system... This is when it boots at all. And often it doesn't boot all the way, but stops with the messages: Begin: Waiting for root file system... Done Check root=bootarg cat /proc/cmdline or missing modules, device: cat /proc/modules ls /dev ALERT! /dev/sda3 does not exist. Dropping to a shell! etc. And a successful boot is always in single-user mode, although the single-user boot sometimes fails. Some other hopefully relevant observations: booting from the installer, I straightaway get the message: could not find kernel image: /;install/lvmlinuz (I deal with this by going to the help menu and doing a <CR>.) When the boot process fails there is always the message: udevd-event[651]: run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit the drive works fine when: the 2.6.18 kernel runs it the etchnhalf installer itself runs it, whether installing or in rescue mode under (sit down, don't gag) vista it makes no difference whether I run the drive as ahci or in ide-emulation mode ('compatibility' in the setup menu) There is no easy way I can include with this post all the output from dmesg when the system fails to recognize the hard drive, but below is the output from the boot process when it completes in single-user mode.
