Sorry I have been so long, but the box wasn't mine. I finaly made it to their place. Use your approach and it worked fine. Thank you. For other people looking at the thread, dont forget after update-grub to got to /boot/grub/grub.cfg and correct the entry for w$ from (usually) root hd(0,0) to (0,1) as the bug in grub2 is still not solved.
