update-grub can generate the menu.lst for all the kernels in the system 
automatically, so I don't need to put that info into menu.lst manually. 
My chroot is a bootable partition, with kernels different from my current 
one. 

So, if I understand you correctly, you too think that such automatic 
generating for and within the chroot system is impossible, correct?
