In an effort to determine why, I ran "dmesg|grep wlan0" which returned the following: [ 115.301609] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready [ 1845.942662] wlan0: Initial auth_alg=0 [ 1845.942676] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:04:0e:76:ff:46 [ 1845.951180] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready [ 1846.143176] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:04:0e:76:ff:46 [ 1846.145035] wlan0: RX authentication from 00:04:0e:76:ff:46 (alg=0 transaction=2 status=0) [ 1846.145044] wlan0: authenticated [ 1846.145050] wlan0: associate with AP 00:04:0e:76:ff:46 [ 1846.148041] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:04:0e:76:ff:46 (capab=0x451 status=0 aid=1) [ 1846.148041] wlan0: associated [ 1846.148041] wlan0: CTS protection enabled (BSSID=00:04:0e:76:ff:46) [ 1846.148041] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready [ 1856.758407] wlan0: no IPv6 routers present I then ran "cat /var/log/syslog|grep NetworkManager" which showed the following: Sep 29 07:35:54 R61 NetworkManager: <info> starting... I then ran command "ifup wlan0", which returned: ifup: interface wlan0 already configured So, the interface may be configured, but obviously was not connecting. I next ran command "ifdown wlan", which returned the following: There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.wlan0.pid with pid 2719 killed old client process, removed PID file Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.1.1 Copyright 2004-2008 Internet Systems Consortium. I then ran "ifup wlan0" again, with the following result: Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.1.1 Copyright 2004-2008 Internet Systems Consortium. All rights reserved. So, the only way I can get a wireless connection is by not having the boot-up process try to establish a connection automatically on boot-up, but to establish the connection manually after boot-up is completed by running "ifup wlan0". Does all the foregoing give anyone any idea why I cannot establish on boot-up of my Lenovo R61 ThinkPad a good wireless connection?
