well, it was either the reboot, or renaming .dmrc in my HOME folder. All
of my desktop icons are back..

I renamed .dmrc and the new one created is 26 bytes, the old one is 24
bytes. the only difference I can see in those 2 files is the new one has
an extra empty line at the top.
I hate rebooting... "your /dev/sda6 has not been checked in 70 days,
forcing a check now"...
