Thanks to everyone that has answered my questions. My linux requirements are pretty minimal compared to that of a desktop users. I pretty much just use apache, perl, php, exim, proftpd, mrtg, iptables for custom packetfilter for wireless networks and redirection rules for authentication. I would tend to be more security minded than most desktop users. Slackware is nice and all, and it will always have a place in my heart :) It was my first distro, starting about 7 years ago, I have used it in production environments for 5 years. But everyone keeps telling apt is where it is at. Currently I have 4 debian systems in my lab running billing software and radius servers. 4 FreeBSD servers in production, handful or so of LEAF routers and 7 Slackware machines running radius, DNS, Apache/PHP/Perl. Some people say the "testing" tree is alpha some say its stable as redhat, so which is it? Keep in mind, I don't run X, I just run linux based servers and packetfilters/firewalls. Thanks for all of the help.
