I had a corrupt .desktop file in /usr/share/applications, removing it and running update-desktop-database fixed the problem and I was able to finish installing the limbo packages. A developer has fixed the problem in desktop-file-utils and a patch is ready , per the forwarded message below, for the Debian package maintainer to apply.
