I don't know java as yet but have not modified the code of
AnalogClockApplet.java yet so why does it not compile? Any pointers?

Hi,

From what i can see, you are trying to use a method that is not known by your JVM ( Java Virtual Machine ) . Could you please post the output of "java -version" ? Anyway, by no means is this a Debian related problem. I think the guys from the Java forums can give you more proper advice.
