Exactly yes, CPU is AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+ and no idea is it 64 bits or
32 bits CPU.

Don't you mean CPU? If the CPU's 64 bit, and the Debian installer has
any clue (and we chose the right iso (of course)), then a 64 bit CPU
install will get a 64 bit kernel. Works on my Sun U30.
