Why not install a SATA card (PATA cables block too much air flow, among other problems), and you don't get into the master/slave controller contention issues with SATA. This gives you lots of expansion options. I don't know about brands of cards. My MB has 7 SATA ports. Check out addonics.com. Their products that work with linux are listed as working with linux.
