See bugs #447666, #447676, #447841. Apparently the problem is resolved
with hal 0.5.10-2. (http://incoming.debian.org)

For a temporary fix you can uninstall xserver-xorg-input-evdev and
restart X. (That is what I did; I did not have time to try the new hal
package yet.)
