To use flash in amd64 in Etch you need an i386 chroot. In Lenny, there is a pluginwrapper that solves it but it depends on a different libc than Etch and the maintainer tells me that it can't be backported. Note that the chroot once set up is quite simple. I have a button on my icewm that runs schroot -pc etch-ia32 /usr/bin/iceweasel That's it. Flash is installed in that chroot. The only downsides: the chroot takes up 432 MB, and its an extra system to run aptitude update on occasionally (whenever a security announcement comes out).
