Hi,
I installed CUPS to send jobs to a Infotec 4182 MF printer, using HP
LaserJet Series CUPS driver. It's working almost perfectly. But one
problem is about the page margin. If I send a ps file, e.g., created by
"a2ps t.txt", a small part at the top and bottom is missing. I guess the
settings about page margin should be adjusted. I changed the
"*ImageableArea" in the ppd file, but it did not solve the problem.
This problem didn't exist previously when I used lpd and smbprint,
indicating the printer is able to print larger area than what is defined
in the CUPS LaserJet Series CUPS driver. Any idea? Thanks in advance.
Well, you indicate that you used the HP LaserJet Series Driver. This driver is not specifically for your printer and is only a generic driver for HP LaserJets. So, some tweaking is to be expected. You could visit linuxprinting.org to find a CUPS driver more to your printer's liking.

$ cd /tmp $ wget http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/printing/align.ps $ wget http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/printing/alignmargins $ chmod 777 alignmargins $ less alignmargins (if you're paranoid, or just curious) $ su (enter root password) # ./alignmargins
Find a ruler with inches on it (or centimetres and find a calculator too!). Follow the instructions on screen. Works perfectly, and sets up the CUPS defaults so that everything prints out nicely.
