I think this is the default kernel behavior if you use the framebuffer. Linus Torvalds recommends that you avoid using the framebuffer except as a last resort when you can't get decent video any other way. I'd really reconsider if it's really worth spending the time and effort on a feature that gets a vote of no confidence from the maintainer. - -- .''`.
